An Indiana House panel has sent the proposed marriage amendment to the House floor. Following about four hours of testimony, the Republican-led House Elections Committee Wednesday voted along party lines, 9-to-3, to approve House Joint Resolution 3 and its companion measure, House Bill 1153. The proposed constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage could get a vote by the full House next week. The companion bill states benefits should not be impaired to employees' same-sex partners. If the ban is ultimately approved this session, it would go before Hoosier voters this November.
