Indiana House OKs Pilot Pre-K Program

The Indiana House of Representatives has approved a voluntary pre-k program for low-income families. The legislation, similar to a bill proposed in the legislature last year, passed the House by a vote of 87 to 9. House Bill 1004, which now heads to the Senate, establishes a pilot program in five counties, yet to be chosen, that would let eligible parents receive state-funded vouchers to send a four-year-old child to a private or public preschool for about six months out of the year.
