In downstate Vincennes, Indiana's oldest city, residents plan to celebrate New Year's Eve with their sixth annual Watermelon Drop.  Fourteen Knox County watermelons will be dropped from the "Great Watermelon" -- an 18-foot 500-pound structure with a trapdoor that releases the actual watermelons onto a "splatform" below. City officials say since its creation in 2008, the giant watermelon has become a star attraction in Vincennes, even being featured in the community's July 4th and Christmas parades. People also enjoy sharing photographs and YouTube videos of themselves standing next to the 18-foot-long watermelon throughout the evening.  [Photo Vincennes/Knox County Convention and Visitors Bureau]
