Board Opposes Amendment to Ban Gay Marriage

The Porter County Board of Commissioners this week unanimously approved a resolution opposing a proposed constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage in Indiana. The resolution notes that state law already defines marriage as between a man and a woman, and points to concerns voiced by the Hoosier business community. Two Region mayors, Democrat Thomas McDermott Jr of Hammond and Republican Jon Costas of Valparaiso are among a dozen mayors around the state who also recently took an official stand against the proposed amendment, House Joint Resolution Number 6.
