Century Old NWI Family Business Has Closed

Just months before Christmas, a century-old family business in northwest Indiana that once produced up to one-million poinsettias a year, has closed. The Times today reports Angelo Bernacchi Greenhouses on Fox Street in La Porte shut its doors about a month ago, due to increasing difficulties competing with lower prices offered on plants by big box stores and in part to younger generations not interested in taking on continuing the company. The business was founded by Angelo Bernacchi, who immigrated to the United States from Italy when he was a teenager.
